What is CHP (Combined Heat and Power cycle)?
In recent years, electricity prices have been rising at a dizzying pace, which translates to more and more costs of running a business for entrepreneurs.
The solution to this problem is to install your own energy sources. Renewable energy sources are environmentally friendly, but they do not ensure a constant power production profile, and are not able to generate heat on a large scale. For industrial entrepreneurs, hotels, public facilities and other large consumers of electricity and heat, cogeneration is the solution to this problem.
Cogeneration is a technological process of simultaneous generation of electricity and useful heat. CHP units are available on the market on any scale, from tens of kilowatts to hundreds of megawatts of electrical power, making them available to many entrepreneurs.
What is trigeneration (Combined Cooling Heat and Power)?
A cogeneration engine always produces electricity and heat during operation. For a customer who does not need high heat production in the summer period, the problem of heat management from the unit may arise. The solution is to use trigeneration.
Trigeneration is an extension of cogeneration, it is a process where the products are electricity, heat and cooling.
The trigeneration system consists of a cogeneration engine and a absorption cooling unit producing chilled water. Cold is produced in the aggregate using sorption technologies, which is supplied with heat from a cogenerator. The use of such a system ensures a stable profile of cogeneration use throughout the year, which generates greater savings than in the case of operation only in the winter season.
Ecological effect
Cogeneration and trigeneration are combined production.
Combined generation in the power industry is more ecological than distributed generation, so the cogeneration installation reduces the indirect negative impact on the environment of the enterprise. Generation of electricity and heat in a cogeneration unit requires 30-40% less fuel than in distributed generation.
